5. Heard Island, Australia
Heard Island is one of the most remote islands on Earth. It belongs to Australia and sits far in the southern Indian Ocean. No one lives here. The weather is cold and windy, and the island is often covered in ice. Two active volcanoes make the landscape even more dramatic.
It is nearly impossible to visit because of its extreme location and tough climate. Regular visitors are not allowed. Only scientists can sometimes go for research.
