Young Texas Girl Bakes Over 1,000 Cookies to Support Flood Victims After Tragic Camp Disaster

Post categories:

LEAGUE CITY, TEXAS — When 11-year-old Kamryn Balfour returned home from summer camp, she was heartbroken to learn about the deadly floods that struck nearby. Determined to help, the League City sixth grader decided to turn her love of baking into a way to make a difference.

Kamryn had spent her summer at Kickapoo Kamp in Kerrville, just 20 miles from Camp Mystic, where severe July 4 flooding claimed the lives of over two dozen campers and counselors. While her own camp was safe, the loss at Camp Mystic hit Kamryn deeply.

Once back in Houston, Kamryn told her mother she wanted to do something meaningful for the victims. Without hesitation, she began baking cookies to raise money for flood relief efforts.

Working tirelessly in a commercial kitchen loaned to her by a family friend, Kamryn baked 17 batches of cookies in a single day — all from scratch. In total, she’s made over 27 batches, adding up to more than 1,000 cookies.

She carefully packaged each batch under the name “Kamryn’s Kravings,” tying each bag with pink ribbon and selling them for $5 apiece. Every dollar raised has gone toward helping those impacted by the devastating floods.

So far, Kamryn has collected $2,945, with a goal of reaching at least $3,000. Her mom, Kelly Balfour, said the effort has been entirely Kamryn’s idea and reflects her daughter’s kind spirit and compassion.

“She just wanted to help. It’s all her,” Kelly said. “This has given her a sense of purpose during such a sad time.”

As recovery continues in the flood-stricken areas of Texas Hill Country, Kamryn’s cookie fundraiser stands as a sweet reminder that even the smallest hands can make a powerful difference.
