10. Sidu River Bridge

Soaring 500 meters above a deep gorge, the Sidu River Bridge is a bold marvel. It rises over Hubei Province, linking the towns of Yi Chong and Enshi.
Before the bridge, these towns were isolated. Now, they’re connected; and the region has changed forever. How was it built? With rockets. Engineers used them to launch the first cable across the canyon, a world first in bridge building.
The bridge stands on strong H-shaped towers. Its span is stiffened by a massive steel truss. For a time, it was the highest bridge on Earth. Built for 720 million yuan, it opened in 2009. It tamed wild terrain and boosted the local economy. For fans of daring design and record-breaking heights, the Sidu River Bridge is a true sky-high achievement.
