2. A Sudden and Destructive Eruption
The eruption began without warning, with lava shooting from the crater and a thick ash cloud rising high into the air. Pyroclastic flows, a rare and deadly mixture of gas and volcanic debris, rushed down the slopes, reaching up to 2 kilometers from the volcano.
Residents and tourists, many of whom were unprepared, rushed to evacuate as the volcano unleashed its fury.
