Khloe Kardashian Breaks Silence on Taking Care of Tristan Thompson’s Disabled Brother

Khloe Kardashian is opening up about the deeply personal reason she took on a life-changing responsibility: becoming the primary caretaker for Tristan Thompson’s younger brother, Amari. In a heartfelt episode of her Khloe in Wonder Land podcast, the reality star shared how a tragedy reshaped her life—and deepened her bond with a young man battling a debilitating illness.

A Promise Rooted in Love and Loss

Khloe’s decision to care for 18-year-old Amari Thompson stems from a close relationship with his and Tristan’s late mother, Andrea Thompson. “Tristan’s mom and I became such good friends,” Khloe said on the July 30 podcast episode. “I had such a good relationship with Andrea, and I would help her with Amari medically.”

Andrea, who unexpectedly passed away in January 2023 from a heart attack, had been Amari’s sole caregiver in Canada. The teen suffers from Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), a severe form of epilepsy that causes frequent seizures. Khloe had already been involved in his care, helping Andrea navigate medical appointments and access specialist resources.

“I was involved in all of Amari’s medical appointments,” Khloe revealed, highlighting how deeply integrated she was in the family’s day-to-day medical decisions even before Andrea’s passing.

Khloe Becomes Amari’s Guardian in L.A.

After Andrea’s death, Tristan was granted temporary custody of Amari eight months later, relocating him to California. However, with his demanding travel schedule as a Cleveland Cavaliers player, Tristan knew Amari needed consistent, stable care—something Khloe stepped up to provide without hesitation.

“It’s just not conducive for Amari to be on that many planes,” Khloe explained, noting that Amari experiences “a handful of seizures a day.”

Today, Amari lives in Los Angeles under Khloe’s care. “I have chosen to take care of him,” she confirmed. “I have two sensational caretakers for Amari, who I love love love.”

While Khloe’s relationship with Tristan has been rocky, she clarified that her decision has nothing to do with him—and everything to do with her love for Andrea and Amari. “My relationship with Andrea has nothing to do with Tristan. My commitment to her has nothing to do with Tristan.”

Khloe’s entire family, including her children True and Tatum and even matriarch Kris Jenner, have embraced Amari. She hosted his 18th birthday party in April and continues to include him in family moments, ensuring he lives “the best, most beautiful life that we know how.”

“When you meet someone that’s so wonderful and then something so terrible happens to them, you do want to help,” she shared on The Kardashians. “You do want to fix it and be there as much as you can.”
