Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra was more than a designer — she was a visionary entrepreneur. Her fashion brand, East x East, known for resortwear and swimwear, had just opened a pop-up boutique at Gurney’s Montauk Resort, just six miles from where her body was discovered. Her work was inspired by New York’s hustle and Long Island’s serenity.

In a recent TikTok video, she reflected on her brand’s motto:

“Our tagline is built in the city, made for the sun… at some point, everyone in their lives is grinding, but everyone’s destined for the sun.”

The 33-year-old had relocated from Ireland to New York to chase her dreams.

I was the small town girl who needed to get out to achieve her big dreams,” she told The Irish Independent. “I always knew I wanted to be successful, that I was money-driven, business-driven…”

Even as she rose in the fashion world, Martha kept her ties close to her roots in Carlow, Ireland, describing her childhood friends as “still my crew.”
