Emma Stone just gave fans a nostalgic surprise by opening up about her time filming The Amazing Spider-Man alongside ex-boyfriend Andrew Garfield.
In a rare interview with Vogue published Aug. 14, the Oscar-winning actress reflected on their relationship and career-defining roles, calling it “a special time” in her life. Naturally, fans are stunned at her heartfelt acknowledgment of Garfield.

Emma Stone isn’t one to dwell on the past, but she’s not afraid to look back with fondness. Speaking to Vogue, the actress recalled her time playing Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and its 2014 sequel, where she starred opposite Garfield’s Peter Parker.
“I really loved doing Spider-Man,” Emma said. “I loved everyone I worked with. I met Andrew there. It was really a special time in my life.”
She also praised her co-stars and crew, including Sally Field and director Mark Webb, describing the whole experience as “wonderful” and one she only remembers positively. “The people, more than the film itself, is what sticks with me for so long. So I have only the fondest memories of this whole experience,” Emma added.
Emma and Andrew’s Enduring Support for Each Other
Emma and Andrew dated from 2011 to 2015, and while their romance ended a decade ago, their bond never faded. In fact, they’ve consistently spoken kindly about one another in interviews and shown public support in moments that touched fans.
At the 2017 Golden Globes, Andrew gave Emma a standing ovation when she won Best Actress for La La Land. More recently, at the 2025 Golden Globes, they shared a sweet moment laughing together alongside Emma’s husband, Dave McCary.
Andrew has also praised Emma on multiple occasions. “I’m constantly inspired by her work,” he told Vanity Fair in 2017, calling himself her “biggest fan.” In another interview, he even cheekily said if stranded on a desert island, Emma would be his choice of companion.
Their playful dynamic continues off-screen. Andrew revealed in 2022 that Emma kept texting him, trying to get him to spill about his secret cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. “She was like, ‘Are you in this new Spider-Man film?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about,’” Andrew said, laughing.
Despite their breakup, both have been clear: the respect and admiration remain strong. As Emma summed it up in the past, their relationship was “so special” that it didn’t feel right to overshare — a sentiment her latest comments only reinforce.
