8. The Precipice Trail, Acadia National Park

The Precipice Trail is known for its steep drops, narrow ledges, and iron rungs bolted into the rock. This trail is often described as the most difficult hike in Acadia National Park.
Due to its location on exposed cliffs, the trail is usually closed during the peregrine falcon nesting season. There are also temporary closures from time to time because of falling rocks or trail repairs.
Accidents can happen here because the path is very narrow, and a fall could lead to serious injury. Several hikers have been cited for attempting the hike while it was officially closed.
Those who attempt the Precipice Trail should be prepared for a tough and technical climb. People who are not comfortable with heights or exposed trails may want to skip this route, which has been called Acadia’s most dangerous hike.
