3. The Maze, Canyonlands National Park

The Maze in Canyonlands National Park is one of the most isolated hiking areas in the United States. Its twisting canyons make it easy for even experienced hikers to get lost. The area’s remoteness increases the risk since help is far away.
Only a few rangers patrol The Maze, and there are almost no marked trails. Getting in and out requires careful planning, extra water, and advanced navigation skills. Most rescues take hours or even days.
This rugged hike is often listed among America’s most dangerous hikes. Weather can also be unpredictable, with flash floods and extreme heat a constant threat. Because of these dangers, this trail is not recommended for beginners.
