Ex-School Teacher Accused of Years-Long Sexual Abuse of Teenage Boy

Post categories:

A former South Carolina schoolteacher, Nicole Ballew Callaham, 33, now faces criminal charges after her former student Grant Strickland bravely testified about a multi-year abusive relationship. Strickland described grooming that began in 2021 when Callaham allegedly misused her role to exploit him during after-school activities.

He waited until he turned 18 to speak up. Callaham surrendered to authorities, and the investigation continues to reveal more disturbing details about her actions, including manipulation tactics and repeated boundary violations.

Grant Strickland delivered powerful testimony in court, saying: “I’m not going to back down. Awareness needs to increase.” He explained that Callaham signed him out of class, transported him to practices, and supervised him outside school.

Strickland waited until adulthood to report the misconduct, citing emotional trauma. His account helped build the case, backed by search warrants and information from his family. After the trial, he spoke outside the courthouse, urging other victims to come forward and saying, “This doesn’t define me—but I want it to stop happening to others.”

Law enforcement has charged Callaham with three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and one count of contributing to delinquency in Anderson County. Greenville authorities filed similar charges after the abuse extended into their jurisdiction. She is currently pregnant, adding a new dimension to the ongoing case.

Court records also note her driver’s license was suspended in April 2023 due to unpaid fines, and her vehicle registration lapsed in December 2021. She pleaded not guilty and posted bond on July 8. Investigators are now reviewing any contact she may have had with other students.

Resignation, Restrictions, and Ongoing Investigation

Callaham resigned from Anderson School District Five after the allegations came to light. A judge issued a protective order barring her from contacting Strickland or visiting any of his properties. Prosecutors have also requested a risk protection order to prevent her from owning or purchasing firearms.

Officials emphasize the importance of student safety and say more protective measures may follow. The case highlights growing concerns around educator misconduct and the need for more robust monitoring systems in schools.
