Perched atop a crumbling volcanic plateau in Lazio, this “dying town” connects by a narrow bridge. With fog-filled valleys and a near-empty medieval village atmosphere, it feels suspended in time. Its haunting architecture and dramatic setting inspired Miyazaki’s Laputa in Castle in the Sky.
