2. The Great Emu War (1932, Australia)
Australia declared “war” on emus when these large birds invaded farmland after World War I. Soldiers armed with machine guns tried to reduce their numbers, but the emus won.
Why it’s bizarre:
- The military lost… to birds.
- Emus proved faster and smarter than expected.
- Farmers had to find other ways to protect crops.
