This life-sized mechanical tiger mauling a British soldier once belonged to Tipu Sultan, ruler of Mysore in India. After his defeat in 1799, British troops looted his palace and took the tiger to England, where it’s still displayed in the Victoria and Albert Museum.

To many Indians, it’s a stolen symbol of resistance and royal heritage.
