5. Moai Statues – Stolen Spirits of Easter Island

In 1868, British sailors removed one of the sacred Moai statues—called Hoa Hakananai‘a—from Rapa Nui (Easter Island) and presented it to Queen Victoria. It’s currently housed in the British Museum.
For the Rapa Nui people, this isn’t just a statue—it’s an ancestor, a spirit, and its absence is deeply felt.
