2. Dom Sebastiao Statue – Portugal
At Lisbon’s Rossio train station, a young tourist climbed into the 126-year-old Dom Sebastiao statue in 2016 to take a photo. The statue, perched in a niche above the entrance, collapsed and shattered completely. Authorities arrested the tourist, and the destruction caused widespread criticism over lack of respect for cultural artifacts.
