5. Ciudad Juárez, Mexico

Ciudad Juárez has long been notorious for its association with drug cartel violence. According to the 2021 Global Peace Index, the murder rate in Ciudad Juárez stands at approximately 90 murders per 100,000 people. Much of this violence is driven by organized crime and turf wars between rival cartels.
While there have been efforts to reduce violence, certain areas, particularly those near the U.S.-Mexico border, remain highly dangerous. Tourists should exercise extreme caution when traveling here, especially in the evening.
