9. La Isla de las Muñecas, Mexico
Located in the canals of Xochimilco, near Mexico City, La Isla de las Muñecas (Island of the Dolls) is an unnerving place steeped in mystery. The island is covered in hundreds of decaying doll parts that were hung on trees and buildings by a former inhabitant to ward off evil spirits. The dolls, some in grotesque states of decay, sway eerily in the wind. Their vacant eyes and twisted smiles make this island one of the most unsettling and terrifying places on the planet.
