5. The Mycenaeans
The Mycenaeans ruled Greece before the time of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey. They built palaces, fought wars, and mysteriously vanished around 1100 BCE.
Why They’re Mysterious:
- Linked to the legendary Trojan War.
- Their writing system, Linear B, was partly decoded.
- Collapse may have been caused by invasions or natural disasters.
