4. The Olmecs
The Olmecs lived in ancient Mexico (around 1200 BCE) and are famous for their giant stone heads. They influenced later cultures like the Maya and Aztec, but much of their culture is still unknown.
Why They’re Mysterious:
- No written records survived.
- Huge carved heads weigh tons and raise questions about how they were moved.
- Possible creators of the first Mesoamerican calendar.
