3. The Great Sphinx of Giza, Egypt

The Great Sphinx of Giza, carved during Pharaoh Khafre’s reign, originally displayed lively colors and a royal beard, standing as a powerful symbol of ancient Egypt. Over centuries, natural erosion and deliberate damage took their toll, causing the loss of its nose, beard, and much of its surface detail.
Today, ongoing restoration efforts try to protect this iconic monument, reminding us of its lasting mystery and the legacy of a civilization that continues to attract the world.
