7. Nanking, China

Nanking, a city with a rich history dating back to ancient China, suffered immense destruction during the Second Sino-Japanese War. In 1937, the city was the site of the infamous Nanking Massacre, during which much of its historic architecture was destroyed.
Over the years, the city was rebuilt with modern infrastructure, but many of its ancient buildings and cultural landmarks were lost in the process. Nanjing today is a mix of modern development and the remnants of its once rich history.
