6. Nagasaki, Japan

Nagasaki, a city with a rich cultural heritage, was almost destroyed during World War II by the atomic bomb in 1945. The bombing wiped out much of the city’s historic architecture and landmarks.
In the years following the war, Nagasaki was rebuilt with modern infrastructure, but many of its pre-war buildings and traditional neighborhoods were lost forever. The reconstruction marked the city’s transition from history to modernity, leaving behind a mix of old and new.
