2. Liu Chuanjian

High above the clouds on a routine flight from Chongqing to Lhasa, calm skies suddenly turned to chaos aboard Sichuan Airlines Flight 3U8633. At 32,000 feet, with a thunderous crack, the cockpit windshield exploded; and in an instant, the freezing air rushed in, the controls trembled, and co-pilot Xu Ruichen was wrenched halfway out of the aircraft.
Among the screaming wind and plummeting temperature; a bone-chilling minus 40 degrees Celsius; Captain Liu Chuanjian gripped the controls with unshakable resolve. He couldn’t hear the radio. Instruments failed. Oxygen masks deployed.
Yet, through sheer instinct and steel nerves forged by years in the PLA Air Force, Liu slowed the Airbus A319 and guided it downward in a dizzying descent.
In just 20 minutes, against all odds, he brought the damaged jet to a safe landing. Not a single life was lost. Hailed as a national hero and later immortalized in film, Captain Liu’s extraordinary courage turned a near-certain tragedy into a breathtaking triumph of skill, discipline, and unbreakable will.
