7. Koh Tachai, Thailand
This small island couldn’t handle the number of daily visitors it received. Marine life and coral reefs were severely impacted by sunscreen, anchors, and tourists. Authorities shut down the island in 2016, banning visitors indefinitely. Conservation took precedence over profit. Koh Tachai remains off-limits to protect its ecosystem.
