The rise of Instagram tourism pushed thousands to this once-quiet canyon. The mossy ground was trampled, paths eroded, and litter became common. In 2019, Iceland temporarily closed the canyon. Rangers now monitor access closely during peak seasons. Nature’s fragility was deeply tested here.
