HIV weakens the immune system by targeting and destroying T-cells, the body’s defense against infections. Over time, untreated HIV can progress into AIDS, which is fatal without treatment. While there’s no cure for HIV, advancements in antiretroviral therapy (ART) have significantly improved the quality of life and life expectancy for those infected. Early detection and consistent treatment are key to living with HIV.
