1. The 2010 Haiti Earthquake

On January 12, 2010, a devastating earthquake struck Haiti, killing an estimated 160,000 people and injuring more than 300,000. The quake, with a magnitude of 7.0, destroyed much of the capital, Port-au-Prince, and left over 1 million people homeless.
The country’s already fragile infrastructure and the lack of adequate disaster response exacerbated the scale of the tragedy, making it one of the deadliest earthquakes in the region’s history.
