3. The Battle of Berlin

The Battle of Berlin took place in April 1945 and brought World War II in Europe to a close. Around 2.5 million Soviet and Polish troops attacked the city, while 750,000 German forces tried to defend it.
Fighting happened in streets, buildings, and homes. Over 22,000 civilians were killed, and Berlin was left heavily damaged. This battle led to the fall of Nazi Germany and the end of the war in Europe.
