Statistically, Lake Mead is the deadliest national park area in the United States, averaging more than 20 deaths per year. Most of these are due to drowning, though boating accidents and cliff diving also contribute.

Alcohol use and underestimating the desert environment are often factors. Some bodies have never been recovered from the lake’s deep, murky waters.
