At first glance, the Grand Canyon is a breathtaking natural wonder. But it’s also one of the deadliest. The park averages more than 12 deaths per year, most of which result from falls, dehydration, or heatstroke.
Some visitors attempt risky selfies or hikes without proper gear, only to disappear into the vast and unforgiving landscape. The park’s layered canyons make rescue operations extremely difficult.
